100 Thieves vs Cloud9

Yet another fascinating clash between a top-tier behemoth and a solid, middle of the pack contender who's still rough around the edges.

Cloud9 are entering this clash with about as much hype as humanly possible. They're an absolute behemoth at the moment, and they're sitting on a spotless 3W-0L record. The fact that they're yet to lose isn't what's most impressive, but rather the fact that they're playing such good League of Legends. It's amazing, really. They're aggressive, in sync, they're constantly rotating, setting up plays, their macro is immaculate and they're insanely good both individually as well as a five-man unit.

Heck, one could argue that their play upgraded considerably from last year, and seeing how they were a Top 2 team last year, that's saying something. There's a metric ton of aggro present within their line-up and they're harnessing it to perfection. Zven, in particular, has been wrecking house every time he steps foot on stage. The former LEC champion is looking for redemption after two fairly lackluster years with Team SoloMid, and it seems as though he found the perfect kind of environment with Cloud9. He has some insanely talented teammates as well. Their one-sided shellacking over Immortals was expected, but was still impressive to see their stellar play in action.

An absolute titan in the making, without any obvious weakness. Could they challenge Team Liquid for the throne? That's always a tall order, but they might as well be able to if they continue playing at such a high level.

Opposite them, we have 100 Thieves. Now, there's a lot to like with this updated incarnation of Nadeshot's capable team, but they're not exactly ready yet to challenge the upper echelon of the LCS. They're making more mistakes than they should (like Meteos' dive over Crown yesterday), they're a bit sloppy in the mid and late game (a sign of inexperience and lack of cohesion as a team) but they're also much better than most people expected. They're at the very least getting wins on the board and are bound to challenge for a spot in the playoffs once the regular portion of the split comes to an end. Their wins over Counter Logic Gaming and the Golden Guardians at the very least paint them as a mid-tier gatekeeper who's capable of surprising, and that's impressive considering just how little time they had to sync up and get on the same page.

Unfortunately, they're simply not good enough at this point in time to truly challenge a team of Cloud9's caliber. The boys in black and blue are too strong both individually as well as a five-man unit to drop a game to 100 Thieves. The game might be a lot closer than most people expect, but in the end, once all is said and done, Cloud9 should be more than capable of emerging victorious. In any case, watching both teams compete on the Summoner's Rift should provide us with quite a fair bit of entertainment.
