100 Thieves vs FlyQuest
Next up, to close out this week's Friday Night League, we have a clash between FlyQuest and 100 Thieves. Now, this isn't exactly a premier match-up, but it should still be fairly entertaining. It all boils down to how well these two teams will draft, and how big of a fight 100 Thieves will be able to put up seeing how they're slated to face a team that is better in every way, shape, and form.
Watching FlyQuest compete at the highest of levels for the second split in a row has been nothing short of mesmerizing. They've quickly risen to prominence and have earned everyone's benefit of the doubt. They are, without a shadow of a doubt, a Top 3 team in North America, and one could argue that they've only just begun. They're aggressive, mechanically gifted, and stylistically compatible in every sense of the word. As a team, they all want to play and win in the exact same fashion, which means they're always on the same page regardless of the opponent. Watching them in action is a thing of beauty, and seeing how they all have a penchant for theatrics and chaotic team fighting, they always manage to find a way to entertain us beyond measure.
Whenever they win -- which happens more often than not -- they do so through intelligent team play and a ton of bravado. Most people doubted their long-term potential, but this incarnation of FlyQuest (with Solo in the top lane) is proving everyone wrong. They have all the tools which are necessary to compete at the highest of levels, and if they continue playing at such a high level, they stand a very good chance of representing North America at this year's World Championship in China.
100 Thieves, on the other hand, are a mixed bag. Perhaps that's too mild of a description. With just two wins on the board, it's hard to get excited about their chances of leaving a mark. Heck, one could argue that it's already too late. Their line-up, while not exactly abysmal, is underwhelming in every sense of the word. Granted, if a team has Ssumday by their side, it'll always be somewhat competitive. But beyond this obscenely powerful top laner, there's just nothing else to push them over the finish line. Cody Sun has regressed far beyond what anyone expected, Ry0ma -- while noticeably better than last split -- still isn't a top-tier talent, and Contractz (best known for his solid Cloud9 stint years ago) isn't exactly in his prime. Finally, their support Poome might have a bit of potential but he'll need a ton of time before fully realizing it. This roster simply lacks the power to compete. There's nothing to commend them for, and their play on the Summoner's Rift is about as good as you'd expect: mediocre from start to finish.
They might not be the worst team in the region, but they're not far from it either. Simply put, don't expect anything overly impressive from the 100 Thieves bunch going forward. Naturally, we're siding with FlyQuest on this one. It's the only logical option at this point in time.
