100 Thieves vs FlyQuest

Yet another match-up that is nigh impossible to predict. On paper? 100 Thieves have it in the bag. They're better across the board and are basically a shoo-in for the 2021 LCS Summer Split finals. In actuality, though, they've been struggling, much like everyone else in the LCS. In fact, the teams everyone thought were the worst — Immortals, Counter Logic Gaming, Golden Guardians, and even FlyQuest to a certain extent — have impressed us the most.

That's just the North American LCS for you: confusion, chaos, and a bunch of fiestas.

Now, we're not complaining per se, but this kind of state of affairs does make betting a lot more complicated than it should be. We're at the halfway point of the season — the favorites should be discernible with ease, and yet that's not the case.

100 Thieves, for instance, looked nigh unstoppable. And then they failed to get even a single kill on the board against Counter Logic Gaming. That wasn't a typo — they couldn't get a single kill against one of the least capable teams in North America. What gives? Well, there's still no definitive answer in sight, but it's wholly worrying, as you can probably imagine. It's also not a good look for any of the LCS permanent partners — they should've been a lot more commanding given whom they had to face, and yet they've been fumbling and failing in a myriad of different ways.

FlyQuest isn't much better — they've had some huge ups and downs throughout the last couple of weeks, and it's nigh impossible to fully assess their power level. Are they good? Absolutely, but just how good they really are still remains to be seen. The LCS is as crazy as it gets right now, and, well, you're either elated for the fact or have decided to turn off the stream days ago.

In any case, we simply have to go with 100 Thieves. They are simply better than FlyQuest. We know that for a fact, but how does one give them the benefit of the doubt after the fashion in which they struggled against CLG? To lose is generally acceptable — it's a natural part of any competition. But to not get even a single game on the board against a team that many folks deemed as the absolute worst in the LCS is just unacceptable. They simply needed to have performed better, given whom they had competing under their banner and just how much hype and momentum they had coming into the match.

Regardless, they're still favored in this one, and it's easy to understand why. They have all the right tools to emerge victorious, and the fact that they imploded beyond measure yesterday doesn't change that. How well they'll perform still remains to be seen, but they should definitely be able to get the "W."
