100 Thieves vs Immortals
For our first match of the day we have an absolute banger: 100 Thieves vs. Immortals. Well, the potential is there, at least. In reality, however, this could definitely end up being one of the worst and least entertaining games of the day.
In any case, there's a reason to tune in. Neither team is entering the day with a lot of momentum, although it's fair to say that 100 Thieves have at least a little bit more hype, especially after getting the win over Team Dignitas yesterday. That one game was instrumental for their hopes of reaching the playoffs as they've also overtaken Dignitas in the standings. Now, 100 Thieves' 6W-7L record is by no means spectacular, but it's far from bad and they've certainly looked fairly good over the last couple of weeks. Not an LCS champion in the making, but a solid, layered threat that has the potential to upset.
If they get the win tonight as well, they'll tie their record and will, in a way, be a lock for the playoffs. That's not a small accomplishment, especially not after an abysmal 2019. Opposite them, however, we have Immortals. Now, explaining their trajectory so far is nothing short of impossible. They started off strong, they had an identity of sorts and were able to win more often than not through sheer experience and will power. That's a far. They didn't have any superstar performers (not those who were flashy in nature, at least), but instead had veteran presence, multiple shot callers, and players who've been around since what feels like the dawn of time.
That, in itself, is more than enough for Immortals to get a couple of wins. As time went on, however, they've looked worse and worse. They're now nowhere near as strong as they were back when the split began because the meta shifted and because other teams improved leaps and bounds from the end of January. This means Immortals no longer have the edge in any way, shape, or form. Now sure, their experience is always a benefit that cannot be underestimated, but they're just not going to blow anyone away.
They're also coming into the week after playing one of the worst games of the split against Counter Logic Gaming. That was, in many ways, a fiesta for the history books. Inaction, passivity, egregious mistake after egregious mistake, and just abysmal individual play all-around. They got the win in the end, but it feels like no one truly emerged victorious out of that one.
Because of this, we simply have to side with 100 Thieves, although it really could go either way. Neither team is perfect in execution, they're both struggling more often than not, so it really depends on who's able to impose their playstyle first and get the lead early. If Meteos is able to shut down Xmithie from the very get go, Immortals pretty much don't have a win condition, so at least there's a very clear and obvious strategy here. Still, doing that is much harder than it sounds, although it's far from impossible, as evidenced by Immortals' many losses. In any case, both teams have a lot on the line and will surely try their hardest.
They've now lost three games in a row and are by no means considered as a titan of competitive League at the moment. That doesn't mean they won't be able to tango or perhaps even upset, but
