CLG vs Team SoloMid
For our third match of the day, we have a North American el clasico: Team SoloMid vs. Counter Logic Gaming. Even though both teams belong in the LCS pantheon, neither are entering this clash with a lot of hype. Perhaps that's even an understatement.
Counter Logic Gaming are currently looking like the worst and least capable team in the region, and with just a single win on the board, they don't have any semblance of momentum behind their backs. They're just not good enough, neither individually nor as a five-man unit, and even though Pobelter infused the team with a bit of life and proactivity, it's still not enough. They might improve over time, but they'll always lack the necessary oomph to compete even with the many mid-tier gatekeepers.
Team SoloMid, on the other hand, are coming into this match after getting outclassed and demolished by the defending champs Team Liquid in what was one of the most decisive and dominant games of 2020. Their draft was abysmal and so was their play. They wanted to persevere through the early and mid game in order for Broken Blade's Kayle to scale and pop off. Unfortunately, they didn't have the tools to endure Liquid's onslaught and were, as a result, handed a beatdown for the ages. It really wasn't a good showing and their baffling draft decisions only made things worse.
Still, they're insanely talented and they know what they did wrong. They're surely looking for redemption and getting a statement win over Counter Logic Gaming is an absolute must at this point. Even if they don't play their best League of Legends, they should still be able to find an opening against a weakened CLG and capitalize.
So obviously, we're siding with the former LCS champions on this one. It might not be clean or dominant, but they're favored to get the win and with good reason.
