Evil Geniuses vs CLG
Finally, to close out the week, we have a fairly interesting clash between Evil Geniuses and Counter Logic Gaming. Now, "interesting" might not be the most apt way of describing it, but it's not far off either — especially if you're a fan of EG. And yes, it is a one-sided affair in the making, but that doesn't necessarily mean Counter Logic Gaming won't be able to trade blows and make it an entertaining ride. On the contrary! We've seen many upsets lately, so it's fair to say that teams are still struggling to maintain a certain level of play and consistently draft to their strengths. This day is no different in that regard. In fact, it might have taken things onto a whole 'nother level, with Dignitas taking down Team SoloMid and the Golden Guardians upsetting 100 Thieves. We're talking about two outcomes that make no sense whatsoever, and yet they transpired before our very eyes.
So with that in mind, Evil Geniuses are definitely favored, but it's not a result that is set in stone. Heck, it's not even close. Teams that are currently in the second half of the LCS standings are fighting their hearts out which means no one is to be trifled with. Yes, they're severely flawed and won't accomplish much in the grand scheme of things, but they have a puncher's chance, especially given how they're all competing in Best of 1s.
Evil Geniuses have once again gotten back into the win column, and they've done so with an absolute masterclass against Team Liquid. They didn't start off all that well against the first-ever Lock-In champions, but their mental fortitude and sheer resilience blew the minds of many. They fought back to the best of their ability, and actually turned the tides of battle when it mattered most. Once they got rolling, there was no going back — they had too big a lead and were unwilling to let TL bounce back. Jiizuke, in particular, had an exceptional game on Yone, and had completely outclassed the TL squad once those hectic five-on-five team fights started breaking out. The rest of Evil Geniuses didn't slack off either, but it was his immense damage output that sealed the deal.
By the same token, Counter Logic Gaming improved leaps and bounds from their first few weeks of play, but that won't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. Even with Broxah aboard, they don't stand a chance of leaving a mark and are currently -- without a shadow of a doubt -- the absolute worst team in the LCS. And sure, Evil Geniuses might be the most volatile team in the LCS, but their highs are mind-blowing and are undoubtedly better than CLG across the board. Heck, it's not even close.
So, as expected, we'll side with EG on this one as it's the only logical choice. They might not win in dominant fashion, but they'll surely win nonetheless.
