Evil Geniuses vs Immortals
This is where things get seriously interesting -- Evil Geniuses vs. Immortals ia a match-up that is nigh impossible to predict. Even though this isn't the most mind-blowing of clashes, it still carries a fair bit of significance, not just for these two teams but for the LCS standings as a whole.
The gap between EG and Immortals isn't nearly as large as we initially thought. EG might have more potential (and horsepower) on paper, but they're playing some truly dreadful League of Legends, and it's hard to envision a world in which they can make a run for the title. If they were at least a little bit more consistent we'd be more inclined to believe in their chances but right now, at this point in time, they're nothing but a severely flawed mid-tier gatekeeper.
The same thing can be said for Immortals as well, but at least they're surging and have shown some signs of promise. They're far from perfect, mind you, but they haven't been making the same egregious mistakes as EG, and that, in the absence of any truly great triumph, is worthy of celebration. Xerxe, in particular, has been playing out of his mind lately and is undoubtedly reveling in the current meta. The rest of his teammates are also carrying their fair share of the weight as well, with Immortals' bottom lane duo being especially dominant -- something no one really saw coming.
Still, throughout the last year and a half, Evil Geniuses always bounced back in style. They would implode without any apparent reason and then come back primed and ready, swinging for the fences and looking for a bit of redemption. We'd side with Immortals on this one as it's the only logical option, but we've been burned by EG on so many occasions in the past that it's impossible not to take a step back and really think things through. They're (arguably) better across the board, and if they can just hold it together for thirty minutes they'll no doubt get their hands raised. Still, that's quite a big "if" knowing just how unhinged and volatile they can get.
Regardless, they have a competent coaching staff and have probably shored up some of their most glaring weaknesses which were on full display throughout the opening week of the split. Immortals are on the up-and-up -- there's no doubt about it -- but we're going to give Evil Geniuses our benefit of the doubt on this one. We're doing so reluctantly, and it's worth mentioning that they're by no means favored to emerge victorious. This game can truly go either way, so if you're looking for a "safe" bet, you'd be wise to look elsewhere!
