Florida Mayhem vs Los Angeles Valiant
For our second match of the day we have a pretty uneventful clash between the Los Angeles Valiant and the Florida Mayhem.
Essentially this match carries absolutely zero significance for the Mayhem, and while the Valiant are a shoe-in for the playoffs they could use a dominant 4-0 sweep to further improve their map differential.
Florida really didn't have a forgiving schedule last week as they were up against the New York Excelsior and a very game Philadelphia Fusion. While they did manage to tie on Hanamura against New York, it was still a far cry from a solid performance. They failed to put up a fight and even when they had a bit of an upper hand they never really looked confident or proactive enough to make something happen.
Looking ahead, the Valiant are perhaps a bit of an easier opponent but they're fourth in the standings for a reason. Florida showed little understanding of the current meta and other than a couple of nice individual plays they looked lost and without a concrete game plan.
As for the Valiant they continued their pretty dominant run last week with two fantastic wins over the Shanghai Dragons and the Seoul Dynasty. While it wasn't one-sided, they were consistently able to outplay Seoul on almost all maps - other than Blizzard World where Fleta had a field day, echoing his Stage 1 performance on Pharah and Widowmaker.
The Valiant responded in full force on Lunar Horizon Colony as they full held Seoul with relative ease part in due to Agilities stepping up considerably on Junkrat. Lijiang Tower was much of the same as Agilities had another insane performance on Pharah. Gibraltar was where they faltered and almost lost control of the series but when they came to Nepal they were always more clutch when it mattered the most, winning the final map 2:0.
We're going with the Valiant on this one, however don't be surprised if Florida manages to put up a fight.
