FlyQuest vs CLG

For our first match of the day we have a rather interesting clash between FlyQuest and Counter Logic Gaming. Now, in all fairness, this isn't exactly a premier match-up, nor will it blow anyone's mind in terms of entertainment or top-tier play. But it's still a good scrap in the making, and both teams have a reason to tryhard. They are, however, on the opposite ends of the LCS spectrum.

On the one hand, we have FlyQuest, a talented and surprisingly capable mid-tier contender. They're still not all that cohesive nor did they carve out an identity for themselves just yet, but they're getting there. When they set things up well and execute to the best of their ability, they're definitely a potent challenger. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen all that consistently -- sometimes they just fail to get off the ground and execute regardless of whom they're up against. Still, these are growing pains, and they've inevitable at this point in time. What's important, however, is that they've shown promise and that there's ample room to grow. We've seen glimpses of greatness, and we were not left indifferent. Over time, they'll surely evolve and grow into a very capable contender, and are pretty much a shoo-in for the playoffs. They won't upset the LCS status quo any time soon (if ever, really), but they've earned our benefit of the doubt and will surely entertain us over the coming weeks and months.

Counter Logic Gaming, on the other hand, are just dreadful in every sense of the word. And, while this might be an overly harsh way of phrasing things, it is by no means incorrect. They've shown some flashes of brilliance here and there (mostly from their mid laner rjs and veteran support Smoothie), but they were too few and far between to actually warrant any praise or commendation. CLG are the only team in the LCS that is still winless, and that tells you all you need to know. There's no obvious synergy between their players, everyone's going in and engaging at different moments, they all have entirely disparate ideas on how the game should be played, and, frankly, there's no light at the end of the tunnel either. The gap between them and the rest of the league is too wide at this point in time. And sure, CLG will improve and shore up their weaknesses over the coming weeks but they won't be able to accomplish anything worthy of mentioning once all is said and done.

Now, they're not exactly a pushover (as evidenced by their relatively feisty performances over the last couple of weeks), but they're far from a layered challenge. They simply have too many obvious weaknesses which can easily be exploited given the right preparation and approach. And, frankly, the holes in their game are as big as possible, so FlyQuest shouldn't have any trouble in taking them down. In any case, we should be in for a skirmish-heavy game that'll probably end up being a lot more entertaining than most people expect.
