FlyQuest vs Evil Geniuses
Next up, we have what can rightfully be deemed as the Match of the Week: Evil Geniuses vs. FlyQuest. These two teams share so much of the same DNA and yet there's such a stark difference in the way they do things. Still, they love to skirmish and entertain their fans and viewers, which means fireworks will not be absent.
Over the last couple of months, both Flyquest and Evil Geniuses have been considered as the second and third best teams in the region, respectively. These roles and positions are by no means set in stone, but they've certainly earned everyone's benefit of the doubt and have done more than enough to warrant a spot so high up the standings. Their playstyles differ if only in the way they want to dominate: EG is more focused on the individual, on Jiizuke and Bang hardcarrying with the rest of the team supporting them in any way they can. FlyQuest, on the other hand, is a bit more layered in style -- they want to do things as a five-man unit and skirmish as a team whenever possible. Still, it's not their only avenue for success as they often rely on PowerOfEvil to do the right thing and create immense leads all by himself.
The difference between these two top-tier teams might not be astronomical, but it does exist, and it is through these layered variations that they often eke out advantages. Saying who's better than whom at this point in time is downright impossible. Evil Geniuses definitely look a bit better although they're far more inconsistent and volatile. For EG, it mostly boils down to the draft and how much agency they give to their most important players. When they give the right tools to Jiizuke and Bang, they'll take care of the rest. When that fails to be the case, EG, as a whole, fails to mount an offensive regardless of the opponent. FlyQuest, on the other hand, is a lot more consistent and can actually compete even from a deficit, in no small part because of their stellar team fighting and consistent individual performances.
The one big thing we're banking on here is the fact that FlyQuest -- at least whenever it mattered -- managed to best Evil Geniuses in relatively clean fashion. They're just a hard match-up stylistically for the EG bunch, although that can certainly change fairly easily.
We're siding with FlyQuest on this one, but this is far from a safe bet as it can truly go either way.
