FlyQuest vs Team Dignitas
For our second match of the day we have an absolute barnburner -- FlyQuest vs. Team Dignitas. Both teams are insanely talented and have already dominated in 2020 far more than anyone could have anticipated coming into the split. They're not without fault, however.
Dignitas have been quite inconsistent over the last couple of weeks and are, by proxy, sitting on a fairly underwhelming (albeit commendable) 5W-5L record. Nothing overly spectacular, but still solid. The reason why they've lost so much stock is because they entered the split wrecking teams left and right. For a brief moment in time, not only did they look like a Top 2 team but they were actually playing like one as well. They had more synergy than the majority of the region, and their sheer mechanical prowess and in-game experience propelled them to unfathomable heights.
Such momentum didn't last for long, however. They became complacent, other teams figured out their own micro metas and ways to play the game, they had more time and were therefore more synergized, and with the meta slightly shifting as well, it felt like Dignitas lost a good chunk of their edge. Frankly, they never recovered, for various reasons. Right now, they're pretty much a deceptively powerful albeit inherently flawed mid-tier gatekeepers who's capable of surprising. That's not a bad position to be in, but it's a far cry from the momentum and hype they had just a couple of weeks back.
Opposite them, we have FlyQuest. No one's quite sure how they got so good, but on paper, they always had a ton of potential. Stellar laners, more than enough mechanical talent, many veterans and multiple individuals who've been hitting their stride ever since 2020 began. WildTurtle, Santorin, IgNar and PowerOfEvil are all playing out of their minds. IgNar and PoE, in particular, brought so much aggression and proactivity to this team, it's actually insane. The Misfits Gaming mid lane and support are looking better than ever, and because they were a perfect stylistic fit for FlyQuest, they slotted in without skipping a beat.
At this point in time, they're the second best team in the region. In many ways, they're like Cloud9 albeit much, much less dangerous and solid. Still, they've shown more than anyone ranked below them and their fantastic ranking is by no means undeserved. They too have inconsistent games, but they're few in number. When they're at the top of their game, when they're able to impose their own playstyle, they're definitely a spectacular challenger.
FlyQuest and Dignitas already fought once a couple of weeks ago and it was FLY who were able to eke out an early advantage and snowball it out of control. They also gave Dignitas their very first loss, so they're well aware of what they're up against. FlyQuest might not look like a beastly line-up, but they have sole possession of second place for a reason. They're well-rounded, they're talented across the board and have some of the best performing players in each and every role (with PowerOfEvil having the best split of his career). Will all of this be enough against Team Dignitas? That's a big question, and it's sort of impossible to answer at this point in time. Dignitas has improved quite a lot from their mid-split collapse, but it still feels like they're nowhere near as dangerous as FlyQuest.
We're siding with FLY on this one. If they draft a good team comp and play to their strengths they shouldn't have too big of a problem in taking Dignitas down. Santorin needs to prioritize top lane, shut down Huni from the very get-go and the rest of the team will handle the the other half of the map with relative ease. Still, Dignitas will not go down without a fight and they surely want revenge, so expect a hectic, skirmish-heavy affair that's bound to entertain.
