FlyQuest vs Team Liquid
For our first match of the day we have a rather fascinating clash between two exceptional competitors: Team Liquid and FlyQuest. This, in many ways, one of the most fascinating match-ups in the LCS, and there’s a very good reason why. Both teams are stacked with talent and if there’s one game today that’s absolutely worth your undivided attention, then it has to be this one. Fortunately for us, we won’t have to wait long to see it all unfold!
On the one hand, we have Team Liquid, the first-ever LCS Lock-In champions. The fashion in which they dominated throughout the tournament left no one indifferent. And they are, in fact, the absolute best team North America has to offer. And it’s not even close. When they prepare well, draft to their strengths, and establish their own pace, they’re an absolute force of nature. But none of that was on display during their opening regular season match against Immortals. Now, the fact that they had lost isn’t all that dramatic — anyone can lose at any given time. After all, small mistakes tend to pile up and often snowball out of control. What was dramatic, however, was the fashion in which they’d lost, and to Immortals of all teams. Had it happened against, say, Cloud9, Team SoloMid, or 100 Thieves, we’d be less inclined to sound the alarms. But Immortals? That’s just inexcusable at this point in time. It’s not that they’re the absolute worst team in the history of the region, but they’re far from stacked and talented. There’s some potential, granted, but it simply shouldn’t have been enough against a team of Liquid’s caliber. And it wasn’t a fluke their — Immortals were really just better on that given day.
Liquid did bounce back with a pretty clean game against Digntias but, as you can imagine, getting a win over Dig isn’t anything to write home about. Far from it, in fact. But a win is a win, and Immortals needed one badly after flunking so hard against Immortals the day earlier.
This time around they’re up against a team that is considered better and more talented than both Immortals and Dignitas — FlyQuest. It’s not that FlyQuest is a giant of competitive League either, but their players have a noticeably higher skill ceiling when compared to most of their peers. And they’re already making waves with an exceptional showing against Team SoloMid on day one, and a somewhat bitter loss to Evil Geniuses on day two.
We’re going to side with Team Liquid on this one, but not with full confidence. FlyQuest is playing exceptionally well at the moment and they’ll surely give TL a run for their money right from the very get-go. In the end, though, we’ll give the four-time LCS champions our benefit of the doubt, even though they haven’t exactly earned it over the weekend. They have more than enough talent and veteran experience to get the win against FlyQuest tonight, and that’s what we’re banking on the most.
