FlyQuest vs Team SoloMid
Next up, we have an absolute barnburner: Team SoloMid vs. FlyQuest. Neither team has been looking particularly clean, but we know what they're capable of, and you can be certain that both line-ups are motivated beyond measure to make their 2020 season count and represent North America at the World Championship stage in China.
On paper, these two challengers are brimming with talent and potential, but they haven't been as good as people expected. FlyQuest, in particular, has been slumping without any apparent reason even though they've made just a single change to their starting roster (for the better). They had a spectacular start to the split (in no small part because of Santorin's pop-off performances on Trundle) after which they just imploded and are currently looking like a shoddy mid-tier gatekeeper. No one's quite sure what's going on and whether this is just a one-off occurrence or a sign of the things to come. PowerOfEvil and IgNar, in particular, have been far less impactful and clean in execution than we're used to, and their underwhelming performances have left a severe mark on the team as a whole.
They simply haven't been that good lately, and it's not for a lack of trying either. Fortunately, their biggest issues and flaws are by no means monumental and they could, in theory, fix them in just a couple of days' time. Whether they're able to do so, now that the pressure is mounting, still remains to be seen.
Team SoloMid, on the other hand, have been equally as inconsistent, but at least their highs have been much more pronounced. Their drafts have improved and the same goes for their individual performances. Bjergsen, in particular, has been hardcarrying like his life depends on it, and watching him run circles around his opposition has been an absolute pleasure. Team SoloMid are obviously a Top 3 team right now, but they just need a bit more time to gel as a unit and figure out how they want to play the game out.
In any case, they're entering this clash with a lot more momentum and should have the edge in every way, shape, and form. Still, even with that being true, they're prone to making egregious mistakes at the most random of times, so if you're looking for a safe bet, it's best to look elsewhere.
