FlyQuest vs Unicorns of Love
Next up, we have an absolute barnburner: FlyQuest vs. Unicorns of Love! This clash, in short, is guaranteed to deliver big-time. We have two exceptional teams, two line-ups graced with a ton of mechanical talent, with all ten players having a penchant for non-stop skirmishing and unrelenting aggression. What’s not to like?!
This is also, in a way, a fight between two teams who don’t have much of a chance of making it out of groups. They didn’t have any luck of the draw, as they were slotted into an insanely competitive group with Top Esports (the team everyone’s expecting to win the tournament or, at the very least, reach the finals) and DRX, the second seed from the LCK. Finishing third in their group doesn’t carry much weight, nor is it particularly impressive, but both FlyQuest and UoL still believe in their potential miracle runs. They don’t stand a chance against Top Esports, but taking DRX down is definitely within the realm of possibility, although UoL already failed in that regard.
This is, therefore, a must-win game for both if they intend on challenging for that second place. FlyQuest, of course, has a better shot as they’ve yet to face DRX, although they’re by no means favored in that match-up either.
With so much on the line, you can expect both teams to trade heavy blows like there’s no tomorrow. It all boils down to this, and if they can end up triumphant they’ll not only improve their Worlds record but also get some much-needed momentum going forward. The Unicorns of Love are still hyped a fair bit, and it’s easy to understand why. Their flexibility and mechanical talent are quite impressive — far better than you’d expect from a team coming from the LCL. Still, FlyQuest come from a much more competitive region, and have done more than enough to warrant our benefit of the doubt. They’re far from perfect, but when PowerOfEvil gets agency in the draft and IgNar gets his hands on a potent engage champion, they’re automatically a force to be reckoned with. Santorin has also been having an insanely good year thus far and is considered by many as the connective tissue of the team. He’s not as flashy but is still insanely consistent and can eke out concrete advantages for his team in the early game.
Solo is somewhat of a weak link, but Unicorns of Love is by no means a giant from the LPL/LCK. They can’t punish quite as hard, so all Solo needs to do is survive the early game and then help his team out come mid and late (i.e. get carried). FlyQuest have all the right tools to get the win over the Unicorns of Love, but they need to draft well and execute to a tee. They’re flawed, that’s a fact, but they’ve always delivered throughout 2020 when it mattered the most. There’s no reason to start doubting them now, especially considering that they’re facing a team with such distinct strengths and weaknesses.
All of that said, UoL definitely has a puncher’s chance and are by no means a pushover. They’re creative, cohesive, and even a bit crazy, so if you’re looking for a safe bet you’d best look elsewhere. In any case, expect an insanely close, skirmish-heavy brawl!
