Fnatic vs MAD Lions

The match of the week, the fight between the legends of yesteryear and the superstars of tomorrow. How could you not tune in?

Even though almost everyone will side with Fnatic (and with good reason), it's impossible not to respect and admire MAD Lions for what they've accomplished over the last couple of weeks. They were always going to face an uphill battle seeing how they only have a single veteran within their ranks, but their play, cohesion, and mental fortitude are absolutely staggering. Especially when you consider that they're trading heavy blows with many LEC mainstays. That's not a small, negligible achievement. Not in the slightest, and it's hard not to be excited for what's to come. The future is bright for this young line-up and many of their players will surely be in the running for the "Rookie of the Split" nod.

They're playing without any reserve or stage fright and watching them go blow for blow with the who's who of the LEC is an absolute treat.

By the same token, Fnatic have corrected course and are back in the win column after defeating Team Vitality yesterday. They definitely didn't start off that well but their experience and veteran presence ultimately prevailed. Selfmade's insane Lee Sin play definitely stood out, and it was his stellar decision-making that ultimately pushed Fnatic over the finish line. Other members, however, were both hot and cold. Bwipo did good on his pocket Singed but was far from perfect, and Hylissang continued his abysmal play from last week. He's currently the worst performing member on Fnatic and one could argue that he's even one of the worst supports in the region at the moment. We all know he's a coin-flip kind of player, but to make these mistakes with so much experience and knowledge is simply unforgivable.

At best, he's an aggressive playmaker. At worst, he's bringing his entire team down and is making egregious mistakes at the worst possible moments (not to mention baffling engages and errors in positioning). Still, they're a fantastic five-man unit and when they play to their strengths they're a bona fide titan.

In the end, we simply have to side with Fnatic on this one. Had MAD Lions played any better against Origen yesterday, we would've been inclined to give them more benefit of the doubt. But their loss truly showcased their inexperience. There's no shame in losing to a team like Origen, but that defeat certainly did hinder and derail their hype train considerably. That said, they're bound to give Fnatic a run for their money, so expect a competitive clash that'll be decided by the slimmest of margins.
