G2 Esports vs Astralis

To close out the day, we have a one-sided betdown in the making: G2 Esports and Astralis. Not exactly the most enticing of match-ups, but it’ll probably be a bit more entertaining than most folks expect. G2 always want to have a bit of fun so they probably won’t try their hardest. Astralis, on the other hand, are obviously fighting for relevancy so they’ll play like their lives depend on it. Still, the outcome is nothing but a foregone conclusion.

Speaking of Astralis, they’re a much harder team to fully (and objectively) evaluate. Are they good? Without a doubt, but they’re far from great, and even though they *have* improved since the first half of the season, they’re still a shoo-in for the bottom of the standings and one of the least capable teams in the region. Be that as it may, with two wins and just a single loss on the board, Astralis have done about enough to earn our respect. They won’t upset the LEC status quo nor will they blow your mind with the most immaculate macro or the most astonishing teamfighting, but they’re relatively well-rounded and are obviously trying their hardest to compete. So credit where credit is due. They’re no longer as egregious as in the past and, for a team without any superstars and hardcarries, that’s definitely commendable.

In the end, though, we simply have to go with G2 Esports on this one, although we *are* doing so somewhat hesitantly. They’re far too volatile for their own good, and there’s ample self-pride involved as well. They’re still one of the best teams in Europe, but predicting whether they’ll tryhard or fool around is nigh impossible, especially this early on into the split. Regardless, they have all the tools they need to outclass Astralis and get yet another win on the board. They’re far from perfect, but even on a bad day they should be more than capable enough to get the “W.”
