Houston Outlaws vs Philadelphia Fusion
For our first match of the day we have an incredibly exciting clash between the Philadelphia Fusion and the Houston Outlaws.
Now this has "premier Overwatch" written all over it - but whether or not both teams will deliver remains to be seen. Both teams are capable of reaching great heights but throughout their inaugural Overwatch League run they've been far too inconsistent at the most random of times to really have any confidence in either roster.
That said the Fusion have shown more consistent results whereas Houston always fumbled when it mattered the most.
They're currently sitting and sixth place in the stage standings which isn't bad by any means but they're not really favored to enter the playoffs due to their lackluster map differential and the fact that both Dallas and Philly have higher chances of reaching Top 4 when all the dust settles. As for the overall playoffs they do have a chance of reaching the Top 6 however that scenario would involve quite a lot of luck and some incredibly stellar play and the Outlaws don't really have either going in their favor right now.
Too many what-if scenarios need to happen in order for them to reach the playoffs and their chances are incredibly slim but they're probably going to give it their all regardless.
It's a shame that they we won't be seeing them in July however they were never really able to overcome their big mental hurdle when up against top tier teams. They had big upsets and reverse sweeps but they were too few and far between. Whenever we thought they had reached a certain level of consistency it was only a matter of days before they crumbled yet again.
It's a depressive reality for any and all Houston fans but at least they have a high skill ceiling. They're a team brimming with potential and they will only get better with time.
After an abysmal week three, Philadelphia needed to step things up - and quickly. Everything was on the line - Stage 4 playoffs as well as the overall season playoffs. (not to mention an insane amount of potential prize money depending on their ranking) Fortunately for Phlly, with EQO back in the line-up they were able to perform up to expectations and finish week four with two very important victories - against the surging San Francisco Shock (2-1) and the Seoul Dynasty. (3-2) This time around they have the Houston Outlaws and the London Spitfire and that makes things incredibly interesting. Both matches are really winnable which could put this Philadelphia squad right in the Top 4 for Stage 4 with a very respectable 7W and 3L record.
Now we get to the main key point and sure you can compliment Sado and Hotba to no end for how they brought some consistency to the roster or how EQO comes up clutch so many times with his deep champion pool but how can you ever really count out a team that has such a big MVP candidate - Carpe?
It's so rare to see just a single individual almost single-handedly carry his team out of nasty situations. He took the Fusion from the jaws of defeat so many times that we've actually lost count. Over the last two weeks he was able to pull off so many clutch plays it was actually insane. Multiple headshots on key targets in a matter of seconds - one after another.
What Carpe brings to the table is downright incredible and he's the main reason why the the team is able to function so well and consistently remain in the Top 5.
Saying that he's one of the most feared and capable Widowmakers in the entire League would be an understatement. While LiNkzr could make things a bit heated in the hit-scan department it doesn't take a lot of imagination to
We're going with Philadelphia on this one but the Outlaws definitely have the tools to make this a very close series.
