London Spitfire vs New York Excelsior

Next up, we have a fairly fascinating clash between New York Excelsior and London Spitfire. On paper, this should be one heck of a match, but how it'll all transpire once these teams butt heads is far less certain at this point in time. You could make a case for both challengers -- London looked rather fantastic (unexpectedly so) back during the May Melee, but failed to transfer over that momentum into June.

They were beaten by Shanghai mere days ago and it wasn't nearly as competitive as one would've liked. The Dragons needed just three quick maps to take home the win, which is quite a different result compared to the 3-2 barnburner from last month. Did Shanghai improve, or has London lost a bit of their (seemingly ephemeral) edge? No one's quite sure, and the fact that Asian teams are taking games off each other on a weekly basis only complicates things. It feels like very little is set in stone, which makes betting on the Overwatch League exceedingly dangerous at the most random of times. One week things pan out exactly as everyone expects, and then after a new hero pool comes into place, teams become as volatile as humanly possible -- everyone's scrambling to adapt and only a select few manage to do so in time.

Still, it's hard to doubt New York Excelsior, even though they're nowhere near as consistent as you'd expect given the amount of talent and experience present within their stacked roster. They've 3-0'd Seoul last week which is a fairly solid accomplishment, but then dropped an unexpected 2-3 loss to Hangzhou Spark yesterday. If you're looking for logic and reason, you won't find it in the Overwatch League at this point in time. But despite this baffling volatility, we simply have to side with New York. They have all the right players within their ranks to take the win, although it's probably going to be a lot more competitive than the odds would suggest.
