Los Angeles Valiant vs London Spitfire
For our first match of the day we have a very exciting fight between the Los Angeles Valiant and the London Spitfire.
The Valiant were finally able to solidify their position as a Top 2 or at worst Top 3 team in the entire League.
While they don't have a "star DPS" player per se, Agilities stepped up a ton over the last two weeks and currently ranks Top 5 in eliminations as both Junkrat and Pharah. He isn't the best in the League but he was able to clutch out in multiple key moments - mostly on control maps.
No one really expected the level of play that they displayed against the Gladiators but they had the perfect gameplan and executed it to a tee. They were able to shut down Fissure from the very get go and fortunately for all Valiant fans neither Surefour nor Hydration were able to pop off.
Soon on the other hand was able to string a couple of very consistent performances against both the Gladiators and the Excelsior. He has very inconsistent performances from time to time but last week he was solid as a rock. While he didn't best the opposing Widowmaker on a consistent basis he was able to take out key targets in the backline which was the main reason why the Valiant were able to turn things around.
When the Valiant are able to impose their playstyle and get into their groove they're quite a formidable opponent. Their win against the New York Excelsior is suspect however. Even though they did beat them fair and square on Nepal, New York was showboating on Gibraltar from start to finish. It eventually backfired as they lost the series but with nothing on the line they can afford to have some fun.
On the other hand, London was looking somewhat good going into week three. They were able to string two very nice wins against the San Francisco Shock and the Seoul Dynasty. Even though they didn't exactly dominate over the Boston Uprising it was still a win but it all came crashing down when they faced Dallas Fuel last Saturday.
Not only was it a painfully one-sided affair but London managed to lose in a record time. They lost the match 0-3 in exactly one hour - including all commercial breaks, analyst desk segments and pauses. It was almost laughable how futile their attempts at fighting Dallas were. They were constantly trying to run dive into a team that is essentially the best anti-dive team right now. They're running Brigitte over 70% of the time and to run Winston, Genji and Tracer so frequently is illogical.
They were unwilling to swap, to adapt, to try something new and when they tried countering Mickie' Brigitte it was a bit too late - they were already down two maps. While they should improve with time now that they have released a good portion of their roster they're still ways off.
To be quite frank we're not exactly sure if London's on the up and up or if they're still hot and cold depending on the day. Consistency should be their overall goal but with a 3W-3L record in Stage 4 so far it's looking somewhat dire for the Stage 1 champions.
Their spot in the overall playoffs is secure however by the looks of it they're going to be one of the weakest teams in the entire playoffs which is quite the shocker considering the amount of talent they had coming into the Overwatch League. (both GC Busan and C9 Kongdoo)
We're going with the Valiant on this one. While their games don't really instill crazy amounts of confidence or hype they're the second best team in the League currently and with good reason. They deserve every benefit of the doubt, especially after winning both matches last week against the Los Angeles Gladiators and even the New York Excelsior.
