Misfits vs exceL
Our first clash of the day is a rather peculiar one — and we mean this in the best possible sense. We’re talking about two teams that find themselves at different ends of the LEC spectrum. On the one side we have Misfits, a team that has impressed us in all the right ways throughout the last few weeks. They’re currently sitting on a very respectable 7W-4L record and have done more than enough to warrant our benefit of the doubt.
It is worth mentioning, though, that they’ve lost a bit of their momentum after dropping the ball last week to both Rogue and Astralis. Now, losing to the Spring Split finalists is by no means embarrassing, but succumbing to Astralis? That’s downright unacceptable if you have high aspirations and are looking to challenge the LEC status quo. It was a close game, in all fairness, and they could’ve easily gotten the win had things panned out a little bit differently. Still, a loss is a loss, regardless of the fashion in which it came.
By the same token, EXCEL aren’t much more impressive, but have nonetheless garnered more praise because we didn’t have any high expectations. Ever since they had decided to promote their Academy jungler and support to the starting line-up, they’ve been playing some mighty impressive League of Legends. They went blow for blow with both MAD Lions and Fnatic — a spectacular accomplishment given the meager amount of hype they had coming into the second half of 2021.
That’s undoubtedly the biggest question mark right now, and is why we’re so apprehensive at having to predict the outcome of this particular game. A prediction can certainly be made, but not with any concrete amount of confidence. Both teams have a shot which, in all fairness, is quite a surprise. Misfits have generally done a lot more throughout the last few weeks, but that doesn’t mean they’ll get on the same page and deliver today as well.
Regardless, we’ve seen their highs and we know what they’re truly capable of. They might not be head and shoulders above EXCEL, but are a lot more precise in the late game which should, by all means, give them a noticeable upper hand once they step foot on stage to compete.
With that said, don’t expect a one-sided beatdown or anything similar — EXCEL will not go down without a fight, and they obviously have all the right tools to compete with teams ranked above them!
