San Francisco Shock vs London Spitfire
We are off to the third day of the Overwatch League preseason. So far, in regards to production and entertainment value Blizzard knocked it out of the park. While the sheer amount of games might be a bit on the larger end of the spectrum (with around 6 hours of Overwatch per night) we had the chance to see the best Overwatch players square off to very satisfying results.
If there is one thing to be said about the preseason's progression so far, it is the fact that it went a lot closer than anyone expected. There were almost no stomps, and even the matches that were predicted to be incredibly one-sided were incredibly close and went the distance.
That is exactly the reason why this match is so exciting. San Francisco Shock took the first match against the Florida Mayhem on short notice and to everyone's surprise they looked incredibly solid - great even. In matches like that one context is everything, and Florida Mayhem had a roster that has been playing together for quite some time now. They steamrolled through the OW Contenders: Season 1 regular season only to get defeated in the finals at the hands of Team Gigantti. To see them struggle against a newly assembled San Francisco Shock roster was unexpected.
London Spitfire surprised the world as well, however in a completely different way. With both the GC Busan and Cloud9 KongDoo rosters at their hands, fans expected a clean 4-0 or at least a fairly dominant 3-1 showing but it was far from that. When all was said and done, neither the GC Busan roster nor the KongDoo one had what the power to overcome the Los Angeles Gladiators. Other than a very dominant showing on Ilios where Profit showed why he is one of the premier Tracer players in the world, they failed to dominate as they were expected. It seemed as if the Gladiators double duo pickup from Kungarna and Gigantti paid off in spades.
It's incredibly risky to bet on the Spitfires right now as they showed very little yesterday, whereas San Francisco Shock played their heart out against both Florida Mayhem and the Los Angeles Valiant. Babybay had an amazing couple of games on anything he placed his hands on - except a couple of Pharah games where he wasn't as impactful as fans had hoped. Regardless, they put every other team on notice with iddqd having a couple of sensational games as well, especially on Tracer - a pick many didn't expect him to pull out. They looked strong against Florida but faltered on multiple key occasions against the Los Angeles Valiant, so this is exactly the match where we will finally be able to gauge their skill level.
While these matches mean nothing in regards to the regular season, this is certainly not the way London Spitfire wanted to start off. Betting on them is ill-advised at the moment, however they're surely looking to rebound and pull off a big show for the audience in Los Angeles after their disappointing performance yesterday.
If you're going to be on this match, make sure to bet low just in case.
