Seoul Dynasty vs London Spitfire

For our third match of the day we have an incredibly exciting duel between the Seoul Dynasty and the London Spitfire.

We've often seen the Korean giants stumble - whether it was on a certain map or a point in the series - but they always found the tools to bounce back and emerge victorious. The gap was, after all, quite a large one between the Korean and Western teams. It was then such a big shock to see them lose last week - New York to the Philadelphia Fusion in a five map brawler and the London Spitfire to the Boston Uprising.

The very next day we had another sensational clash between Seoul and New York at it did not disappoint. Seoul was probably staggered at the level of teamwork New York displayed on every map and while they played some fantastic Overwatch, New York was always a bit better and bit more creative.

Seoul rebounded nicely on Lunar Horizon Colony after losing on Eichenwalde. NYXL responded with a quad tank composition and went blow-for-blow with Seoul and after a lot of back and forth action, Seoul emerged victorious 5-4. They didn't have an answer for Jjonak's Zenyatta on both Oasis and Lijiang Tower as the Zenyatta master had insane sniping streaks and in addition dealt the exact same number of killing blows on Oasis as Fleta and Saebyolbe.

It was a game of inches. When one team applied force, the other responded the same way. It was an insane display of skill and teamwork and was perhaps the best Overwatch League game so far. Seoul consistently adapted, but that was a part of the problem. They had to respond and follow, rather than dictate and lead. They weren't ready for such a confident New York squad and it showed.

After last week, the top of the OWL ladder is still essentially tied with all three teams having five wins and only a single loss but that changes tonight.

As for the London Spitfire, they were handed their first loss last week by the Boston Uprising and while it was a five map brawler it wasn't that good of a showing from the former GC Busan/C9 Kongdoo players. They decided to start the series off with Hooreg instead of Profit which - as it became apparent fairly quickly - seriously impacted the level of their play. When Profit entered the arena it was all too late as the Boston Uprising built momentum and weren't going to get denied the upset win.

Perhaps the biggest problem London had on full display was just how inept they are at Control maps like Ilios and Lijiang Tower. Regardless of the roster they come out with, they simply cannot compete with the majority of OWL teams on CP maps for reasons unknown. That plagued their matches ever since the beginning of the season and it doesn't seem like it will stop any time soon. Against a team that is so in-sync, so dangerous and flexible as Seoul Dynasty - those antics simply don't stand a chance. If they want to contest for a Top 2 spot, they have to be flawless and innovative, and London hasn't really been either over the last couple of weeks. They've been slow starters and strong finishers but they were often shaky in execution.

As for Seoul Dynasty, they're surely looking to re-establish dominance after their close loss to New York last week. There is no better way to start than to demolish a team that has been deemed as one of their biggest competitors.
