Seoul Dynasty vs New York Excelsior
After two weeks of competition, we've come to the most exciting matchup yet.
Now these two teams already faced once before in December and Seoul Dynasty emerged victorious in 3-1 fashion. While Seoul didn't have as tough of a schedule as New York Excelsior did, they're still the favorites in this match and with good reason. The former Lunatic-Hai squad has looked pretty unstoppable regardless of the opponent, and even though they did have a couple of mistakes here and there, they always managed to come back when it mattered the most.
Their DPS lineup is an insane upgrade over the former Lunatic-Hai one, and paired with some of the best tank and support players in the world - it's tough not betting on Seoul.
Some might favor New York's chances after seeing the walking highlight reel Pine do the heavy lifting on Control Maps as McCree, but people probably forgot just how outclassed Pine was in the 1v1 Widow duel against Fleta when they first met. That single fight between these two staple DPS players on Ilios completely dictated the tempo of the map and seeing how Pine lost 1:5, Seoul didn't have a lot of trouble putting a stranglehold on the point and taking home the win.
After seeing just how dominant Fleta is on basically every DPS hero in the game, it's tough giving New York the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how well they played during the last two weeks. While Libero and Saebyeolbe are no slouches in the DPS department, Fleta proved to be an unstoppable force and is gunning for the MVP award for sure.
Now the last we've seen of Seoul Dynasty was yesterday's 3-1 win over the Shanghai Dragons. While it was a somewhat competitive series, it's important to note that Seoul subbed in all of their alternates in order to give them stage time. Essentially even without half of their key lineup Wekeed and Ryujehong were enough to secure the win against the struggling Dragons.
However by not playing with their starting lineup, they essentially get a serious advantage over the New York Excelsior. They didn't show a single strategy, or a single team comp that New York could take advantage off as this was essentially a one-off thing from Seoul, so they're getting into this highly anticipated fight for first place with their cards close to the vest. Small, nuanced things like this could be the determining factor tomorrow night, especially as New York is going to have to start their full lineup against the Philadelphia Fusion tonight.
It's hard to really describe the hype behind this match, but if you're a veteran player looking to watch two of the absolute best Overwatch teams duke it out or a new player that is wondering what's all the fuss regarding Overwatch - then this is the perfect match to watch. It's hard not to get hooked on the game when you see this level of mechanical prowess and team play regardless of the map or team comp. It's hard not to get hooked when you see the insane Widowmaker duels, or the best Tracer players in the world cleaning up the backline or perhaps even the insane synergy between their tanks - providing ample space for their backline to dish out insane amounts of damage.
Betting on Seoul Dynasty would be the better choice. That said expect an insanely close series that could go the distance.
