Team Dignitas vs Evil Geniuses
Finally, to close out the eight week of LCS regular season play, we have a fascinating clash between Evil Geniuses and Team Dignitas. This match will either be a hectic, bloodshed-heavy affair, or an absolute snooze fest. Either way, there's a reason to tune in.
On paper, both teams are fairly similar in terms of potential and sheer mechanical prowess. In actuality, however, Evil Geniuses had a much more logical progression and overall trajectory ever since 2020 began. They started off slow -- perhaps even too slow. But as the split went on, they improved in many nuanced ways. They're still not as strong as most people expected them to be, but that's beside the point.
Their dominant, one-sided showing against Team Liquid yesterday is all we need to give them our benefit of the doubt going forward. They are by no means perfect. In fact, they're one of the most flawed teams in the entire region, but they're starting to play to their (fairly one-dimensional) strengths, and that's a very big positive. With time, they could potentially even upset the status quo, but we're a ways off from that happening -- Evil Geniuses need to take things one game at a time. They need to build as much hype as possible, and after taking TL down, they have the potential to finish the week 2-0. That'll do wonders for their confidence and they definitely need it, seeing how they're a momentum based team.
Team Dignitas, on the other hand, is still hot and cold, and no one's quite sure what to think whenever they're the topic of conversation. There's a ton of potential within their starting five-man line-up, but they're just not consistent enough to actually compete. They've looked good yesterday, but it's probably a case of too little too late.
Evil Geniuses, on the other hand, have their own unique set of problem. It feels like there's just too much bravado in their line-up, too much willingness to engage and skirmish, for better or worse. When they're on the same page they're an absolute force of nature, going all-in, skirmishing whenever possible, and going for play no one else would dare to. When it doesn't work, however, and that's unfortunately more often the case, they're scattered across the board, without any apparent game plan in mind. They're a coin-flip kind of team, and whether or not they'll be competitive heavily depends on their draft and whether or not they're able to impose their own aggressive, carnivorous style of play.
Still, they should be more than strong and cohesive enough to compete and get the win tonight.
