Team Dignitas vs Golden Guardians

For our first match of the day we have a rather fascinating clash between Team Dignitas and the Golden Guardians. Now, this might not be a marquee match-up, but there's still a reason to tune in, that's for sure. Top-tier play and a metric ton of bloodshed should not be absent, so make sure to prepare enough popcorn.

Dignitas are once again back in the win column after taking down 100 Thieves in a fairly even clash yesterday. It wasn't exactly a one-sided shellacking, but Dignitas had control and never relinquished it. With a fantastic draft and a fairly solid early game, they were able to snowball a noticeable lead and eventually close out the game. It wasn't perfect, but they got the job done and looked good in the process. You could still notice the areas in which they're lacking, but their mistakes were nowhere near as evident as they were last week.

Even though they were on a three-game losing streak, it's important to note that their losses came against FlyQuest, Team SoloMid, and Cloud9 -- all top-tier teams in the region, with the last two being considered the best challengers in the region. It's not like they were outclassed by a bottom-tier dweller or something. Still, they need to string a couple of wins and get back to the top of the standings. Eking out wins won't be enough either -- they need to make statements.

Fortunately, with a win over a solid 100 Thieves, they're back on track and will now be looking to get another win on the board against GGS.

As for the Golden Guardians, you could say that they're riding high after stringing a couple of wins, but they're still somewhat of an unknown quantity. There's a lot to like. Their jungler Closer (former TCL MVP) has been playing out of his mind, but it still feels like he's doing the grunt of the work. His play is immaculate but the same simply cannot be said for his teammates. Their bottom lane is lacking, Hauntzer is somewhat of a coin-flip player, and Goldenglue goes from solid to unimpactful fairly quickly. Overall, no one's quite sure what to think of them.

On the other hand, they're sitting at a fairly commendable 3W-4L record so it's not like they're abysmal either. If anything, they have a couple of avenues for success but they lack the oomph which is necessary to actually compete at the highest of levels. As other teams start synergizing and improving, the Golden Guardians are bound to fall in the standings as they lack the talent and depth when compared to most of their peers. Still, they're solid right now and that's the only thing that matters. You can't discredit their wins either as they're not some crazy, Hail Mary upsets but rather well-deserved triumphs.

Still, when you see their mistakes and - at times - abysmal play, it's impossible not undervalue them in the long term. There are so many weaknesses and holes in their game it's actually mind-blowing.

In the end, we simply have to side with Team Dignitas on this one. There's simply no other logical option. They're far from consistent and they're definitely struggling at the moment, but when they get a solid draft and start off on the right foot, they're one of the best teams in the region. They're also aware that if they don't start picking up the pace that they'll be unable to leave a mark once all is said and done. Dignitas is simply too talented and powerful not to get the win tonight.
