Team Liquid vs CLG

A fight between Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming doesn’t really get the blood pumping. There’s no other way to put it, frankly. Still, this particular clash is far more interesting (and important) than you’d think, especially when it comes to the LCS playoff picture. Now, let’s not build any unnecessary suspense: Team Liquid are heavily favored, and there’s a very good reason why that’s the case. Even at their worst they’re still more than capable of running circles around the vast majority of their peers. That’s what you get when you sign such a potent slew of players — some of the most talented individuals who’ve ever stepped foot on stage to compete. There’s not a weak link over at Team Liquid which has resulted in the most stacked line-up ever assembled on North American soil.

That doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to leave a mark (either locally or internationally), but the odds are definitely stacked in their favor. They have been surprisingly inconsistent over the last couple of weeks, but that’s par for the course — they’re still trying to figure out how they want to play the game out. Should they be *this* volatile so many weeks into the split? Well, not really, but it’s not exactly the time to sound the alarms either. What is important, however, is that they’re getting those high profile wins, and beating Cloud9 for the second time in a row is definitely a welcome sign of the things to come. Getting a win here would allow them to tie Dignitas for second place which, to be fair, is nothing to scoff at. They can still secure that oh-so-important playoff bye so even though they won’t be able to overtake C9 in the standings, they still have a reason to tryhard.

That isn’t the case with Counter Logic Gaming, though. With just three wins on the board, their 2021 LCS Spring Split is pretty much over. Still, there are four games left to be played and they’ll surely try their hardest to further grow and develop as a team, regardless of whom they’re up against. They’re not favored to accomplish much, but they’re definitely better than most people give them credit for. Are they good enough to beat Team Liquid? Not exactly, but stranger things have happened thus far, that’s for sure. Team Liquid isn’t the epitome of consistency either, so they might not outclass CLG as hard as most people expect.

Regardless, they’re favored for a reason and are, frankly, better across the board. It’s impossible to bet against them at this point, so we’ll side with the four-time LCS champs on this one. They might not win in emphatic fashion, but they should still be able to win regardless.
