Vancouver Titans vs New York Excelsior
This is not the New York Excelsior of yore. That needs to be said and highlighted in case those who end up reading these lines aren't aware. Gone are the days of extreme dominance, of champions won and legends written. Gone are the days of getting showered in confetti and being at the center of attention. NYXL is a shadow of their former selves, and their current line-up in no way resembles the one from a few years back.
They are, by all metrics, one of the least capable teams in the Overwatch League, and it's not even up for debate. They're not necessarily abysmal or as bad as a few of their peers, but capable and dangerous they certainly are not.
Their first two outings proved as much, although, to be fair, they *did* go up against some of the very best teams around. Their first 1-3 loss to the Los Angeles Gladiators wasn't particularly impressive, and neither was their 0-3 sweep to the Atlanta Reign. They're still an okay team overall and they could, in due time, grow out into a relatively solid gatekeeper, but that -- assuming it's even possible -- isn't going to happen overnight. Fortunately for NYXL, the Vancouver Titans are even worse than they are.
Every OWL pundit and analyst had them pegged as the de facto worst team in the Overwatch League and, well, it's easy to understand why. They, too, could pull off an upset in the not-so-near future, but are probably going to get beaten to a pulp in the interim by pretty much everyone. That's... not exactly the most ideal state of affairs, but it's the hand they've been dealt and they'll have to find a way to persevere, despite the truly unfavorable odds.
In any case, we'll go with NYXL but by no means is it a "done deal." The meta is more malleable than it's ever been, so upsets can, by all means, happen when you least expect them to.
